The members of the Philosophical Society enjoyed the give
and take of organized debate, reveled in the well-crafted bon mot, and prided
themselves on a long tradition of cultural refinement. Theodore’s intentions
were obvious, obviously; he was not the best partner for debate nor a
particularly lucky poker player.
